Aurochs bull side view by phan-tom Aurochs bull side view by phan-tom
My latest attempt of trying to figure out what an aurochs
would look like.
I took an aurochs skeleton, and placed the bones over an anatomical reference of a modern day cow to try and figure out how the extremities should place in relationship to the torso. Filled in the details as carefully as I could, and this is what I came up with.
It's missing some hair on it's forehead at the moment.
Over all I'm pleased with the way it came out.
Maybe I should try to see if I can draw an aurochs cow.

Painted with Photoshop CS2

Definitely believable, what is the coloring on the back reflecting? Just different colored fur or different length too? Other than the skeleton what else is used as reference? just curious?

Aurochs had a whitish stripe along their spine.
Many cattle still have it. Like this one.

I used some anatomical drawings of cows.
like this one. [link]
and various Iberian fighting bulls, Heck cattle, and Texas Longhorn photos.

Wow, you've done your research. I was curious if you had used forenic literature type stuff; just trying to figure out why the Auroch? :)

Great work on this one too!!!

Thank you, Maureen.
I did quite of bit of reading.
I read a 386 page book about aurochs.
The book had a collection of descriptions from
eyewitnesses who had seen them, before they went extinct in 1627.
Why aurochs? When I started reading about them, something appealed to me.
